Supporting someone with an Eating Disorder

Family and carers are a powerful and important source of support for people with eating disorders of all ages, and are part of many treatment programmes, particularly for children and adolescents. Having support at home or nearby helps the person feel stronger to recover and keeps them connected with the world outside of their condition.

Self-care for carers

Some people can seem to have an enhanced ability to cope with challenges and flexibly manage the difficulties that the eating disorder brings. They seem to ‘bounce back’ more easily. Often, this is about resilience and regular attention to self- care.
